Little Imran bids farewell without having to wait for medicine worth Rs 18 crore

Angadipuram: Little Imran Mohammed left this world without receiving the 18-crore medicine that would have cured his condition. He died at Kozhikode Medical College at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A total of 16.5 crores was raised for his treatment. It is claimed that infection was the cause of his death.

Imran, a six-month-old son of Valamboor residents Arif and Rameesa Thasni, was suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy and had been receiving treatment at Kozhikode Medical College for nearly three months.

Imran began to exhibit symptoms 17 days after his birth. Since then, Imran’s parents have been fighting a never-ending battle, rushing to hospitals one after the other in an attempt to save their child’s life. After receiving treatment at Perinthalmanna Moulana Hospital and Kozhikode MIMS Hospital, he was transferred to Kozhikode Medical College.

The medicine, which cost approximately 18 crores, had to be imported from abroad. Mankada MLA Manjalamkuzhi Ali had formed a monetary assistance committee to assist Imran. Almost 16.5 crores were collected as a result of the generous hearts of Malayalis all over the world. Imran’s family and the committee were hopeful that they could raise the remaining 1.5 crores.
