PM Narendra Modi tells COVID-19 floor leaders that the pandemic should not be a political issue

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with floor leaders from all parties in both chambers of Parliament on Tuesday (July 20, 2021) and urged them that the ‘pandemic should not be a political issue.’

While briefing the floor leaders on the Public Health Response to COVID-19, Prime Minister Modi also stated that such a pandemic has not occurred in the recent 100 years.

“The epidemic should not be a political issue; it should be a subject of worry for all humanity,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi also spoke about the efforts being made to ensure that every area in India has at least one oxygen plant, as well as informing leaders about the country’s immunisation program’s increasing speed.

He told them that the first 10 crore doses took 85 days to prepare, whereas the last 10 crore doses took only 24 days.

The Prime Minister also informed the leaders that daily closing stockpiles in the country show an average of over 1.5 crore coronavirus vaccines at the end of the day.

He emphasised the importance of carefully planning vaccination drives at the district level based on the Central Government’s advance availability to guarantee that people are not inconvenienced.

COVID-19 is’very unexpected,’ according to PM Modi, and everyone must work together to combat the disease. He also mentioned Cowin and Aarogya Setu during the meeting.

According to a news release from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan gave a lengthy presentation in which he stated that only eight states currently have more than 10,000 COVID-19 cases, with Maharashtra and Kerala accounting for the majority of the cases. Only five states, according to Bhusan, have a positive percentage of more than 10%.

During the conference, it was also revealed that Prime Minister Modi met with state chief executives 20 times during the pandemic, while the Union Health Minister met with states 29 times. The Union Cabinet Secretary briefed the State Chief Secretaries 34 times, and 166 Central Teams were dispatched to assist 33 States and UTs in managing COVID-19.
