Sachin Tendulkar reveals details about video conference with PM Modi amid COVID-19 lockdown

Sachin Tendulkar revealed what was the purpose behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video conference meeting with 40 elite sportspersons of the country.

Sachin said that during his chat with PM Modi and the Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, he spoke about his personal views and experiences during this nationwide lockdown amind coronavirus outbreak across the nation.

“I had an opportunity to speak with Narendra Modi, Kiren Rijiju and other sportspersons about our personal views and experiences of how we have been dealing with the lockdown,” Tendulkar said in a statement.

Taking care of our elders who are most vulnerable and using this time to hear from them, their stories and experiences was something the Prime Minister resonated with. He highlighted and reaffirmed my belief that we should not let our guard down after 14th of April, and how we manage that period will be very critical,” he added.

Other high-profile athletes included PT Usha, Pullela Gopichand, Vishwanathan Anand, Hima Das, Bajrang Punia, PV Sindhu, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Cheteshwar Pujara.

On Friday, PM Modi had urged the nation through a video message, in which he appealed to the citizens of India to come together to defeat the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis, that is spreading like wildfire across the nation.

Tendulkar also added how he is no more shacking hands but greeting people Indian style.

“We also spoke about mental fitness being as important as physical fitness during this phase, and shared what I’m doing at home to keep fit,” he added.

In a unique proposition, the Prime Minister asked every citizen to switch off all lights at their residences on April 5 at 9 PM for nine minutes and instead light a candle, a ‘Diya’, or their mobile’s flashlights to mark India’s fight against coronavirus.

The purpose of this exercise, Modi said, is to bolster confidence in the heart of the citizens with a realisation of the fact that no one is alone in this crisis, they are in this with 130-crore other Indians who are collectively battling this crisis.

Last month, the Prime Minister had, in an address to the nation, asked the citizens to observe a ‘Janta Curfew (People’s Curfew)’ on March 22 to avoid the spread of the coronavirus infection. For that occasion, Modi had appealed to the people to clang utensils, ring bells, and clap for five minutes at 5 PM to salute the healthcare professionals fighting against the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 2902 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases in the country and 68 deaths have been reported.
