COVID-19: The number of active cases increased for the second day

New Delhi: According to Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday, India saw a single-day increase of 41,383 coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,12,57,720, while active cases increased for the second consecutive day and were recorded at 4,09,394.

With 507 new fatalities, the country’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 4,18,987.

The active cases account for 1.31 percent of total infections, with the national COVID-19 recovery rate standing at 97.35 percent, according to data updated at 8 a.m. In the last 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload has increased by 2,224 cases.

On Wednesday, 17,18,439 tests were carried out, bringing the total number of COVID-19 detection tests carried out in the country to 45,09,11,712.

The daily positivity rate was calculated to be 2.41 percent. According to the ministry, it has been less than 3% for 31 days in a row, with the weekly positivity rate standing at 2.12%.

According to the data, the number of people who have recovered from the disease has risen to 3,04,29,339, with a case fatality rate of 1.34 percent.

So far, the total number of vaccine doses administered as part of the nationwide vaccination campaign has reached 41.78 crore.

The COVID-19 tally in India reached 20 lakh on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It surpassed 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and one crore on December 19.

On May 4, India passed the two-crore mark, and on June 23, it passed the three-crore mark.

Among the 507 new casualties are 165 from Maharashtra and 105 from Kerala.

So far, 4,18,987 deaths have been reported in the country, with Maharashtra accounting for 1,30,918 deaths, Karnataka accounting for 36,262, Tamil Nadu accounting for 33,809, Delhi accounting for 25,039, Uttar Pradesh accounting for 22,739, West Bengal accounting for 18,027, and Punjab accounting for 16,246.

The ministry emphasised that comorbidities were responsible for more than 70% of the deaths.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry stated on its website, adding that the distribution of figures by state is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
