Kerala would wait for the approval of the Centre before reopening primary schools

Thiruvananthapuram: Despite the Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) recommendation to reopen primary schools, the Kerala government is unlikely to make a hasty decision given the state’s still-alarming COVID-19 pandemic.

The education department has stated that it will only make a decision after receiving official notification from the federal government. Prior to that, there would be high-level conversations about the arrangements that would be established for the reopening of primary schools.

Because of the escalating number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the education department considers it is not appropriate to start primary schools at this time. In places where COVID-19 is less prevalent, the department may consider starting lessons with particular limits. The final choice would be made after looking at what other states have done in this direction.

“The ICMR’s recommendation is warmly welcomed. The national government, on the other hand, has yet to set rules for restarting schools. Kerala is ready to start school. A total of 7,000 new teachers have been hired. We have advocated for teachers to be relieved of COVID-19-related tasks “Education Minister V Sivankutty made the following statement.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced India’s schools to close for nearly a year. Dr Balram Bhargava, director of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), advised a staggered reopening, with primary schools starting courses first.

“There is no reason why schools should not be opened in India right now. Because children are less susceptible to Covid than adults, youngsters in grades one through five may be allowed to attend school first,” he explained.

Dr. Randeep Guleria, the head of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), had previously advised that schools be established in locations where the COVID-19 Test Positivity Rate (TPR) was less than 5%.
