COVID-19: 18,531 cases reported in Kerala on Saturday, with a death toll approaching 16,000

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 18,531 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the state’s total to 32,54,064.

The state’s death toll has risen to 15,969, with 98 deaths reported on Saturday.

As many as 15,507 people were cured of the infection, bringing the total number of people cured to 30,99,469.

According to a press release from Health Minister Veena George, the number of active cases has reached 1,38,124. For the past 24 days, the caseload has remained above one lakh.

1,55,568 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, with a test positivity rate of 11.91 percent. So far, 2,61,06,272 samples have been sent for testing (including the augmented sample).

74 of the positive cases were health workers, 113 were from outside the state, and 17,538 were infected through contact. The origin of infection for 806 of them is unknown.

A total of 4,24,351 people are being watched in various districts. 3,98,407 are in home or institutional quarantine, while 25,944 are in hospitals.

On Saturday, 2,207 people were admitted to hospitals.
