Heavy rains in Maharashtra and the Western Ghats region cause flooding in Karnataka, prompting an alert in seven districts

Heavy rains in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, and a few other districts resulted in three deaths, two missing, houses collapsed, homes inundated, streets flooded, knee-deep water in agriculture fields, landslides, and other devastation.

According to Manoj Rajan, Commissioner of the Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority, the devastation is not as severe in Karnataka as it is in neighbouring Maharashtra.

One person died as a result of a house collapse in the Chikkamagaluru district, two drowned in Uttara Kannada, and two more are still missing.

The state’s dams in these belts have seen a large inflow of water. Due to heavy rains, the Krishna and Kali rivers and their tributaries swell in the ghat region, submerging several bridges and villages.

As a result, the transportation system has been severely impacted. Because so many people were trapped, the NDRF, SDRF, and other agencies were called in to conduct rescue operations and place them in various camps.

Indian Coast Guards were deployed for rescue operations in Uttara Kannada’s Karwar. The authorities have issued a red alert for coastal Karnataka districts such as Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, as well as hilly regions such as Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu, which may experience heavy to very heavy rains for a few more days. The districts of Belagavi and Dharwad in North Karnataka have been placed on orange alert.
