In Kerala, two more Zika tests were positive, bringing the total to 46

Thiruvananthapuram: Two more people in Kerala tested positive for the Zika virus, bringing the total number of reported cases of the infection to 46, five of which are active.

The virus was found in a 42-year-old woman from Kumarapuram in Thiruvananthapuram and a 30-year-old woman from Kottarakkara in Kollam.

The virus was confirmed in tests at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College’s virology lab.

None of the infected patients have been hospitalised, and they are all stable.

Three cases were reported from Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday: a 27-year-old resident near the Medical College, a 38-year-old Petta resident, and a three-year-old Anayara child.

The first case of Zika infection outside the state capital was reported on July 17 from Ernakulam by a health worker working in Thiruvananthapuram.

A case reported from Kottayam also involves a health worker who travelled to Thiruvananthapuram to research the Zika virus.

Efforts have also been stepped up to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds in the area.
