In the Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, a lightning strike kills five people and injures 18
Panna: Five people were killed and 18 others were injured in four lightning strikes in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district on Saturday, according to district officials.
According to district officials, the incidents occurred on Friday in the Panna district villages of Ureha, Pipariya Daun, Choumukha, and Simrakhurd.
While Ureha, Pipariya Daun, and Choumukha villages each reported one casualty, it was reported that two women were killed in the Simrakhurd lightning strike.
A 70-year-old man was struck by lightning while grazing cattle in Simrakhurd, while another died in Pipariya Daun and a 65-year-old man was killed in Choumukha, according to sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Rachna Sharma.
According to her, seven people were injured as a result of lightning strikes in these three villages.
Apart from that, two women in their twenties were struck by lightning while working in a field in Ureha village, according to collector Sanjay Kumar Mishra, who added that 11 others were injured in the incident and are being treated at Panna district hospital.
In the last 24 hours, 76 people were killed by lightning strikes in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The death toll in the weekend lightning strike blitz that struck parts of northern and central India rose to 76 on Monday, with MP reporting 12 casualties in 24 hours to add to UP’s updated count of 41 and Rajasthan’s 23.
According to scientists, lightning strikes have killed nearly 2,000 people in India every year since 2004, which is nearly twice the number of deaths recorded since the late 1960s.
