In just 24 hours, Afghan forces killed 262 Taliban terrorists, nationwide curfew imposed

New Delhi: Afghanistan’s defence ministry claimed on Saturday (July 24) that security forces had killed as many as 262 Taliban terrorists in just 24 hours across various districts.

176 terrorists were also injured, and 21 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were defused, according to the military.

“In the previous 24 hours, #ANDSF operations in Laghman, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Kunar, Ghazni, Paktia, Kandahar, Herat, Balkh, Jowzjan, Helmand, Kunduz, and Kapisa provinces killed 262 Taliban terrorists and wounded 176. In addition, 21 IEDs were located and defused, according to the ministry.

Security operations are ongoing throughout the country, according to the government, particularly in areas where the Taliban has advanced.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to prevent the Taliban from attacking cities, the government imposed a curfew across practically the whole country on Saturday.

Between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., no movement will be permitted except in Kabul and two other provinces.

As the United States prepares to remove its soldiers from Afghanistan, the struggle between the Taliban and Afghan government forces has intensified in recent months.

After the main American military presence leaves, about 650 US troops are likely to stay in the nation to provide protection for diplomats.

Hundreds of additional US troops will also remain at the Kabul airport, maybe until September. They’ll provide security assistance to Turkish forces as a temporary measure until a more formal Turkey-led security operation is in place.
