Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V D Satheesan said in the Kerala Assembly on Tuesday that an RTI query about the number of deaths caused by Covid-19 in Kerala revealed a huge disparity in official data.
The Information Mission Kerala reported in response to an RTI request that the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 since January 2020 is 23,486. However, according to a press release issued by the chief minister on Monday, the total number of deaths is 16,170.
According to the RTI response, a total of 7,316 COVID deaths are not included on the official list. Satheesan drew attention to this disparity and accused the government of concealing the true death toll. Previously, the central government and IMA accused the state government of grossly underreporting the Covid-19 deaths.
