Covid vaccine: In Wayanad and Kasaragod, the first dose is given to everyone over the age of 45

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George announced that the first dose of vaccine has been administered to all target groups over the age of 45 in the districts of Wayanad and Kasaragod. The target group included 2,72,333 people in Wayanad and 3,50,648 in Kasaragod who were over the age of 45, according to available data. According to the minister, all of these people have received the first dose.

Anyone over the age of 45 who has not yet received the vaccine should contact health workers, according to the minister. The vaccination programme for people over the age of 45 began on April 1. The minister congratulated both districts on meeting the target so quickly.

Wayanad is home to a sizable tribal population. The vaccine was distributed in their villages as part of a special mission aided by mobile teams. This mission also included workers from the Department of Tribal Affairs, Kudumbashree, and Asha.

In Wayanad, 56% of people over the age of 45 received both doses of the vaccine. To date, 67 percent of 18-year-olds have received the first dose, and 28 percent have received both doses.

In the case of Kasaragod, meeting the target in endosulfan-affected areas was a significant challenge. However, 54 percent of those aged 45 and up received both doses of the vaccine. 53 percent of those over the age of 18 received the first dose, and 23 percent received the second dose as well.
