Manipur to appoint Mirabai Chanu as Additional Superintendent of Police, and reward with Rs 1 cr

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Monday that weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who won Silver at the Tokyo Olympics, will be appointed as the state police department’s Additional Superintendent of Police.

The state government would also award her Rs 1 crore, according to the chief minister.

According to Singh, the Olympian who won a silver medal in the 49 kg category will be appointed as Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports).

He also stated that the Manipur government has decided to establish a world-class weightlifting academy in the state in the near future.

Judoka L Sushila Devi will also be promoted from constable to sub-inspector, according to Singh.

He announced that all participants in the Tokyo Olympics will receive Rs 25 lakhs.

At least five Manipur athletes are competing in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, including Chanu, Devi, and boxer Mary Kom.
