N Ram and Sashi Kumar file a petition with the Supreme Court seeking a judicial investigation into the Pegasus scandal.

New Delhi: Veteran journalists N Ram and Sashi Kumar have petitioned the Supreme Court for a judicial inquiry into the Pegasus phone hacking scandal. In their petition, they requested that the investigation be overseen by a sitting or retired Supreme Court justice.

The central government should be ordered to reveal whether or not the spyware is used by any government agencies. According to the petition, hacking into people’s phones with spyware used for military purposes is an invasion of privacy.

This is the third petition filed in the Supreme Court requesting an investigation into the Pegasus scandal. Earlier, Adv M L Sharma and Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas had petitioned the Supreme Court for an investigation into the spyware issue.

According to reports published in The Wire, the names of several Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, and 40 Indian journalists appeared on a leaked list of potential targets for surveillance by an unidentified agency using Pegasus spyware.
