Chandrayaan-3 is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2022

Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, told Parliament on Wednesday that Chandrayaan-3 could be launched in the third quarter of 2022.

“Chandrayaan-3 is being built through a series of steps, including configuration finalisation, integration, spacecraft level detailed testing, subsystem realisation, and a series of special tests to evaluate system performance on Earth. The pandemic of Covid-19 slowed down the realisation process “According to the minister.

During the lockdown, all work that could be done from home was completed. In a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha, he added, “The realisation progress on Chandrayaan-3 resumed after the start of the unlock period and is in a matured stage of realisation.”

Chandrayaan-3 is the third mission of the Chandrayaan spacecraft.

Similar to Chandrayaan-2, India’s second Moon mission, the mission will include a lander and a small rover. There would, however, be no orbiter.

The Chandrayaan-2 mission orbited the Moon successfully in 2019. Chandrayaan-3 will aim for the Lunar South Pole, which is located 70.9 degrees south of the lunar equator.

The Chandrayaan-2 orbiter will serve as a relay for the Chandrayaan-3 lander’s communications.

If Chandrayaan-3 is successful, India will become the fourth country to soft-land on the Moon.
