PV Sindhu moves to the last 16 of the Tokyo Olympics after defeating Ngan Yi

Tokyo: On Wednesday at the Musashino Forest Plaza Court 2, star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu defeated Hong Kong’s Ngan Yi Cheung in her second Group J match of the Tokyo Olympics.

Sindhu defeated Ngan Yi Cheung in straight sets, 21-9, 21-16, to advance to the women’s singles elimination round. In the first set, the 26-year-old Indian wasted no time and cruised to victory. The first set (21-9) was only 15 minutes long.
Cheung tried to pull the match away from Sindhu in the second set, but the Indian showed her guile and captured crucial points to win in straight sets. Sindhu has advanced to the knockout stages.
This was the 2016 silver medalist’s second straight victory after she defeated Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10 earlier on Sunday to kick off her Tokyo campaign. The entire match was only 28 minutes long.

In other action on Tuesday, India’s Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy defeated Great Britain’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in the final Group A Play Stage game. In their final group stage match, the Indian duo defeated Lane and Vendy 21-17, 21-19.
