Cessy Xavier applies to the court for anticipatory bail

Cessy Xavier, a 27-year-old woman accused of practising law in Alappuzha without the necessary qualifications, has petitioned the Kerala High Court for anticipatory bail. She moved for bail, claiming that the cheating charge under Section 415 of the IPC would be overturned. The court may hear her case soon, and the police department’s position will also be heard.

She had previously applied to the Alappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate Court for bail and escaped from prison after learning that bail would not be granted. The judge transferred the case to Chief Judicial Magistrate Court due to the charges of impersonation. By this time, she had fled the court through the back gate.

Police were chastised for their lacklustre approach in arresting her, and she was reportedly spotted in Cherthala in the meantime.

Cessy worked in Alappuzha’s various courts for over two years. Meanwhile, the Alappuzha Bar Association received a letter stating that she was not qualified to practise law. During the investigation, the association discovered that her roll number was a forgery and that it belonged to someone else. As a result, a case was opened at the Alappuzha North Police Station.
