PM Narendra Modi will launch a slew of education-related initiatives to commemorate the first anniversary of the National Education Policy

New Delhi: To commemorate the first anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a number of initiatives in the education sector on Thursday (July 29, 2021). He will also use video conferencing to address policymakers in the field of education and skill development, as well as students and teachers from across the country.

The NEP 2020 is notable for being the first education policy of the twenty-first century, succeeding the 34-year-old ‘National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986.’

PM Modi will establish the Academic Bank of Credit, which will offer multiple entry and exit points for students in higher education, first-year engineering programmes in regional languages, and guidelines for the internationalisation of higher education, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Prime Minister will also launch Vidya Pravesh, a three-month play-based school preparation module for Grade 1 students, Indian Sign Language as a secondary level subject, NISHTHA 2.0, an integrated programme of teacher training designed by NCERT, and SAFAL (Structured Assessment For Analyzing Learning Levels), a competency-based assessment framework.

Dharmendra Pradhan, the newly appointed Union Education Minister, will also be present.

“The NEP 2020 is a guiding philosophy for changing the learning landscape, transforming education, and laying strong foundations for an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.” PM Shri @narendramodi will address the nation on July 29th, marking the completion of one year of reforms under the NEP,” Pradhan tweeted.

In addition, the National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR) and the National Education Technology Forum (NETF) will be established.

“These initiatives will represent a significant step toward realising the goals of NEP 2020 and will make the education sector more vibrant and accessible,” the PMO stated.
