Due to a windshield crack, an Air India Express flight makes an emergency landing in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: An Air India Express flight from here to Saudi Arabia was forced to make an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Saturday (July 31, 2021) due to a fracture in the aircraft’s glass, according to an airport official.

The pilots spotted a break in the windshield of the airplane after taking off from here at approximately 7.52 a.m., less than an hour into the trip, leading them to return to Thiruvananthapuram for an emergency landing at around 8.50 a.m., according to the official.

However, because of COVID-19 restrictions on international travel to specific places, the plane had no passengers and only carried cargo and an eight-person crew.

C V Ravindran, the Director of Thiruvananthapuram Airport, informed PTI that all crew members, including the pilots, were safe.

He also stated that if the break had been discovered during the pre-flight check, the plane would not have taken off, implying that it occurred during take-off or while cruising.

He stated that the airplane would return from Damman, Saudi Arabia, with Indian passengers as part of the ‘Vande Bharat Mission.’
