Hansal Mehta Speaks Out In Support Of Shilpa Shetty; Criticizes Celebs For Staying Silent On The Issue

Shilpa Shetty has been gaining headlines for all the wrong reasons since her businessman-husband Raj Kundra was arrested in connection with an adult film business racket. She has even filed a defamation case against various periodicals and social media sites for publishing false content and maligning her image after being trolled online.

In a series of tweets, filmmaker Hansal Mehta has expressed his support for Shetty. The Aligarh director begged everyone to respect the actress’s dignity and privacy, saying it’s regrettable that people in public are deemed guilty before justice is served.

He penned, “If you can’t defend her, why don’t you just leave Shilpa Shetty alone and let the law decide? Allow her some solitude and dignity. It is said that persons in public life are eventually left to fend for themselves and are declared guilty before justice is served.”

Mehta also chastised Bollywood celebs for remaining silent. He claimed that in good times, everyone parties together, but in poor times, there is deafening quiet, and that this is a trend.

“This is a pattern of silence. When things are going well, everyone gets together and has a nice time. There is deafening silence at dreadful times. Isolation exists. Whatever the eventual truth is, the damage has already been done “Hansal’s tweet should be read.

In another tweet, he said, “This is a pattern of vilification. If the allegations are against a movie star, there is a rush to breach private, pass broad judgment, assassinate characters, and fill ‘news’ with trashy gossip – all at the expense of persons and their dignity. This is the price of being silent.”

Meanwhile, on Friday (July 30, 2021), the Bombay High Court heard Shilpa’s petition and ordered various media platforms to remove their content while issuing an interim injunction declaring, “No portion of this shall be interpreted as a gag on media.” The court also stated that a blanket prohibition would be detrimental to the media. Shilpa Shetty’s husband, Raj Kundra, was detained on July 19 by the Mumbai Crime Branch for allegedly producing pornographic videos and distributing them through several applications. He is currently being held in judicial custody.
