Intensification of COVID-19 cases in 10 states is reviewed by the centre

New Delhi: On Saturday (July 31), the Centre assessed the COVID-19 situation in ten states that had recently reported an increase in the number of infections. The health authorities in these states were also asked to review the public health measures they had taken to monitor, contain, and manage COVID-19.

The high-level meeting was presided over by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, who reviewed the situation in Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, and Manipur. These ten states have seen an increase in new COVID cases on a daily basis.

The Center advised states to:

* To effectively and strictly monitor COVID-19 cases to ensure that there is no intermingling in their neighbourhoods, communities, villages, mohallas, wards, and so on, in order to prevent the spread of infection.
* Implement intensive containment and active surveillance in clusters with a high number of reported cases.
* Define containment zones based on case and contact mapping.
* Conduct regular reviews and follow-up for ECRP-II implementation, with a focus on augmenting existing health infrastructure, particularly in rural areas and in paediatric cases. Report the death toll in accordance with ICMR guidelines.

The review meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary (Health), Mission Director (NHM), and State Surveillance Officer from each of these states. Dr. Balram Bhargava, DG ICMR and Secretary (DHR), was also present.
