India sees an increase of 41,831 new Covid cases in a single day, with 541 deaths

According to data updated on Sunday by the Union Health Ministry, India saw a single-day increase of 41,831 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 3,16,55,824, and the cumulative vaccine doses administered in the country has surpassed 47 crores.

The death toll has risen to 4,24,351 people, with 541 people dying every day.

In the last 24 hours, the total number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 2,032 cases.

In addition, 17,89,472 tests were performed on Saturday, bringing the total number of tests performed in the country for the detection of COVID-19 to 46,82,16,510, with a daily positivity rate of 2.34 percent.

According to the health ministry, the weekly positivity rate was 2.42 percent.

According to the data, the number of people who have recovered from the disease has risen to 3,08,20,521, with a case fatality rate of 1.34 percent.

The total number of vaccine doses administered so far under the nationwide vaccination campaign has reached 47.02 crores.

The COVID-19 tally in India reached 20 lakh on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16.

It surpassed 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and one crore on December 19.

On May 4, India passed the two-crore mark, and on June 23, it passed the three-crore mark.

There have been 541 new fatalities, with 225 from Maharashtra, 80 from Kerala, and 68 from Odisha.

So far, the country has reported 4,24,351 deaths, including 1,32,791 in Maharashtra, 36,562 in Karnataka, 34,076 in Tamil Nadu, 25,053 in Delhi, 22,756 in Uttar Pradesh, 18,136 in West Bengal, and 16,293 in Punjab.

The health ministry emphasised that comorbidities were responsible for more than 70% of the deaths.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that the state-by-state distribution of figures is still subject to verification and reconciliation.
