Opposition to Exploit Controversial Rs 1.72 Crore Payment to CM’s Daughter from Private Company Over Three Years

The opposition in the assembly plans to exploit the controversy surrounding the monthly compensation given to Veena Vijayan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter. The controversy stems from the fact that Veena received a substantial sum of Rs 1.72 crore over three years without rendering any service. This revelation was uncovered by the income tax dispute redressal board. The opposition aims to bring this matter up for discussion during the assembly sessions.

Veena Vijayan received a monthly salary from a private company named Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL). The Income Tax Interim Settlement Board’s New Delhi branch stated that the payment was associated with her connection to a prominent individual.

Veena and her own company, Exalogic Solutions, had a contractual agreement with CMRL. The contract was intended for providing IT, marketing consultancy, and software services. However, the Managing Director of CMRL, S N Sasidharan Kartha, informed the income tax department that despite no services being provided, monthly payments were made in accordance with the agreement.

Meanwhile, Mathew Kuzhalnadan, an MLA, accused the Chief Minister of avoiding questions about Veena’s company. The Chief Minister responded with evasion and defiance when confronted with these inquiries. Notably, the money was directly received by his daughter. The MLA demanded clarification from the Chief Minister regarding the circumstances under which this money was accepted. He affirmed that this issue would be raised during the assembly sessions, stressing that the Chief Minister has a responsibility to disclose details about Veena’s financial transactions.
