COVID-19: 23,676 cases reported in Kerala on Tuesday, death toll crosses to 17,000

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 23,676 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 34,49,149.

With the addition of 148 deaths on Tuesday, the state’s death toll has risen to 17,103.

The infection was cured in 15,626 people, bringing the total number of recoveries to 32,58,310. So far, 2,77,15,059 samples have been sent for testing (including the augmented sample).

According to a press release from Health Minister Veena George, the number of active cases has reached 1,73,221. For the past 33 days, the caseload has remained above one lakh.

114 of the positive cases were health workers, 105 were from outside the state, and 22,530 were infected through contact. The source of 927 of them’s infection is unknown.

In the last 24 hours, 1,99,456 samples were tested, with an 11.87 percent test positivity rate.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association urged the Left government on Tuesday to strictly enforce contact tracing and a 17-day quarantine for coronavirus infected people, as well as impose restrictions in specific micro-containment zones, in order to reduce COVID-19 cases.

A total of 4,66,154 people are being watched in various districts. There are 4,37,296 in home or institutional quarantine, and 28,858 in hospitals.
On Tuesday, 2,456 people were admitted to hospitals.
According to the release, there are 678 areas in the state with a TPR of more than 10%.
