Israel’s Prime Minister Vows Prolonged Offensive Against Hamas, Global Leaders Respond to Ongoing Conflict

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on national television that the country’s offensive against Hamas in Gaza has only just begun, emphasizing that their actions will echo through generations. This statement comes amidst the ongoing conflict that started with Hamas’ unprecedented attack into Israel.

The hostilities have resulted in significant casualties, with over 900 people killed in Israel and more than 680 in Gaza. The conflict escalated as Palestinian militants infiltrated Israel, leading to intense shelling in southern Lebanon. The situation remains tense, with more than 187,500 people displaced in Gaza. Meanwhile, international leaders are engaging in diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.

In the U.S., President Joe Biden confirmed the deaths of 11 U.S. citizens in the Hamas attacks and expressed solidarity with the affected families. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned Hamas’ incursion into Israel as “evil” and assured Britain’s Jewish community of their protection amidst concerns of rising antisemitism.

Protests both supporting Israel and Palestine occurred worldwide. In Paris, thousands marched in support of Israel, while in London and Athens, pro-Palestinian protests took place. The European Union, after initial confusion, decided to review assistance for Palestinian authorities in light of the attacks on Israel.

The situation remains fluid, with global leaders engaged in efforts to de-escalate the conflict and ensure the safety of civilians caught in the crossfire.
