Today, Rahul Gandhi to host a breakfast meeting with opposition leaders to discuss parliament strategy

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, will host opposition leaders for a breakfast meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss how to take on the BJP-led government in the remaining months of parliament’s monsoon session on issues such as alleged surveillance through Pegasus spyware.

According to sources, the meeting at the Constitution Club has been invited by leaders of around 14 opposition parties. Members of Congress from both Houses are expected to attend.

Opposition parties have been pressuring both Houses of Parliament to adjourn in order to press their demands, which include a probe into the surveillance allegations.

The parliament session started on July 19 and will end on August 13. The leaders will discuss how to put more pressure on the government to address the issues they have raised.

Leaders from nearly 14 parties are expected to attend, including the Left parties, the RJD, the Samajwadi Party, the BSP, the TMC, the DMK, the NCP, the Shiv Sena, the Aam Aadmi Party, the Muslim League, and the National Conference.

Both Houses’ opposition leaders have received invitations.

According to sources, the Left has proposed holding a “mock parliament” as a form of protest against the government. However, this proposal does not have the support of all opposition parties, and it may be discussed at the meeting.

The number of people who attend the breakfast meeting will be closely monitored. The opposition parties have asked for a court-supervised investigation into allegations of surveillance using Pegasus spyware. The government has refuted the opposition’s claims.

Last week, opposition parties met to present their demands on the issue. Rahul Gandhi was also in attendance, and the opposition leaders later gave a joint press conference.

Rahul Gandhi has been active on the Pegasus issue, and his use of “breakfast politics” is being interpreted as an attempt by the Congress leader to become the opposition’s face.

Last week, Rahul Gandhi surprised everyone by riding a tractor into Parliament to support farmers’ demands for the repeal of three farm laws.
