Kerala logs 32,762 new COVID cases, 112 deaths
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 32,762 new COVID cases on Wednesday, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan while addressing the media here. Triggering panic, the state reported 112 new fatalities due to the Coronavirus infection.
With this, the death toll mounted to 6724. The test positivity rate was recorded at 23.31 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-4282, Malappuram- 4212, Thiruvananthapuram- 3600, Kollam- 3029, Thrissur-2888, Palakkad- 2709, Kozhikode- 2668, Alaapuzha-2034, Kottayam-1988, Kannur-1789, Idukki-1281, Pathanamthitta-1108, Kasaragod- 677 and Wayanad- 497.
A total of 1,40,545 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 1,82,89,940 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RT-LAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
None returned from the UK, South Africa and Brazil tested positive for Covid -19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 125 people including 115 UK returnees, 9 from South Africa, and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 124 of them have recovered from the disease. So far, 11 patients have been infected with the mutant virus strain.
218 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 30,432 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 2008 patients remains unidentified.

104 health workers also tested positive for COVID -19. Among them, 28 were from Kannur, 13 from Kasaragod, 11 from Thiruvananthapuram, 9 each from Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Thrissur, 6 from Palakkad, 5 from Kottayam, 4 each from Idukki, Ernakulam, and Wayanad, and 2 from Kozhikode.
Meanwhile, 48,413 recoveries were also reported in the state.

With this, the number of active cases touched 3,31,860 in the state. 18,94,518 people recovered from the disease so far.
10,05,084 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this 9,64,885 are under home/institutional quarantine and 40,199 people are in hospitals.3890 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
Six new places were added to the list of hotspots on Wednesday and no place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 862 hotspots in the state.
