During the COVID-19 pandemic, India prioritised the poor: Prime Minister Narendra Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi told beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday (August 7, 2021) that India prioritized the poor during the COVID-19 pandemic catastrophe.

“In its approach to fighting the Corona issue, India prioritized the underprivileged. “Whether it is the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana or the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rozgar Yojana, we have thought about the food and employment of the poor since the first day,” stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Modi further stated that during the COVID-19 pandemic, almost 80 crore citizens received free rations. “Over 80 million citizens have received free rations during this time period.” During the lockdown, approximately 8 crore poor families were given free gas cylinders in addition to flour, rice, and legumes. “Over 20 crore women received around Rs 30,000 crores immediately into their Jan Dhan bank accounts,” PM Modi stated.

The Prime Minister also expressed regret over the ongoing disturbance of everyday life and property in Madhya Pradesh floods caused by persistent rain, calling the situation “unfortunate.”

“It is unfortunate that some MP districts are experiencing rain and flooding. Several people’s lives and livelihoods have been jeopardized. “The Government of India and the entire nation stand with Madhya Pradesh in these difficult times,” PM Modi stated during a meeting with beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.

He also praised the state government’s efforts, saying, “CM Shivraj and his entire team are traveling

to the areas and carrying out rescue and relief activities.” Whether it is the NDRF, the Central Forces, or the Air Force, all facilities are being supplied to the State Government to assist in this situation.”

The Prime Minister stated that for numerous years, efforts have been undertaken to offer strength to the underprivileged, empowering them in the true sense. “I remember what used to be the condition of roads in MP, we used to hear about big scams from here,” he added. “Today, cities in MP are creating new models for cleanliness and development; roads are being built in every village of the country; new jobs are being created; farmers have access to markets; and poor people can reach the hospital on time in case of illness.”
