COVID-19: In Maharashtra, Delta Plus cases have risen to 45, despite the threat of a third wave

New Delhi:  The number of Delta Plus cases in Maharashtra has risen to 45, according to the state’s Health Minister Rajesh Tope, as the country prepares for the third wave of COVID-19 (August 8, 2021). According to Tope, the number of Delta Plus cases of COVID-19 has increased from 21 to 27 men and 18 women.

“We are collecting information from patients about vaccinations, illnesses, and tracking and tracing operations. There is currently no cause for concern “He continued.

Maharashtra has 45 delta plus patients, with 13 from Jalgaon, 11 from Ratnagiri, 6 from Mumbai, 5 from Thane, 3 from Pune, and 1 each from Palghar, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Nandurbar, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, and Beed.

It should be noted that the highly transmissible ‘Delta variant’ of COVID-19, discovered in India, has now mutated to form the Delta Plus or ‘AY.1’ variant.

Concern Variant
The Delta plus variant is currently classified as a ‘Variant of Concern,’ and it possesses the following characteristics:

1. Enhanced transmissibility

2. Improved binding to lung cell receptors.

3. The possibility of a reduction in monoclonal antibody response.

Again, a state of emergency in Maharashtra?
On Sunday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray warned that a lockdown would be imposed if the state saw an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. In a social media address to the people of Maharashtra, Thackeray also stated that the state has made preparations in anticipation of the threat of the third wave of COVID-19.

Thackeray also stated that people can prevent the third wave of coronavirus by practising COVID-appropriate behaviour. “The virus is still present, and we must not become complacent. I recognise that your patience is wearing thin. But please don’t give up hope, “He stated.

There are 5,508 new COVID-19 cases.
Maharashtra reported 5,508 new COVID-19 confirmed cases on Sunday, bringing the total to 63,53,327, with 71,510 active cases. The state also saw 151 coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the total to 1,33,996. A total of 4,895 patients were discharged during the day, bringing the total number of recoveries in Maharashtra to 61,44,388.
