Nayana Surya’s death: “Not a suicide and could be murder”

The death of young director Nayana Surya was not suicide and could be a chance to murder, Retired forensic surgeon Dr Sasikala informed the Crime Branch. She reported that the bruises spotted on her body were not those that could be inflicted by herself.

Dr Sasikala had conducted the autopsy of Nayana Surya, visited the site of death and submitted a report earlier. The Crime Branch reinvestigation team recorded Dr Sasikala’s statements on Saturday. Dr Sasikala said that she visited the site of death on account of the suspicions that surfaced during the autopsy. During the visit, she had recognised the possibility of the presence of another person during Nayana’s death. Dr Sasikala accused the police of distorting her statements. She said that the condition ‘sexual asphyxia’ was mentioned only as a rare chance.

Through the media, Dr Sasikala slammed the police for distorting her statements. Dr also cited strangulation as the cause of death and had reported to the police the eight injuries on her body and internal bleeding due to stamping at the abdomen. But, none of them was recorded as her statement. She also said that the word “immoral conduct” found in the statement was not given by her. Nayana Surya, who worked as an assistant director of Lenin Rajendran, was found dead in her rented house at Althara Nagar in Thiruvananthapuram on February 24, 2019.
