Meera Mithun, a Kollywood actress, has been arrested for making casteist remarks in a viral video

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu police’s Cyber wing has arrested actor-model Meera Mithun for an alleged slur against Scheduled Castes (SC) in a video that has gone viral on social media.

The FIR was filed in response to a complaint filed by the Viduthalai Chiruthagai Katchi (VCK), a political party led by Member of Parliament Thol Thirumavalavan that supports the Dalit cause.

According to the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Police, actor Meera Mithun was charged under seven provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

During an appearance on a talk show, the actor responded to a question by saying that she would normally not discuss Scheduled Caste (SC) people.

The complainant claimed that she had blamed movie directors from the Scheduled Castes community for all of the industry’s wrongs and ills. According to the complainant, she also inquired as to why other members of the Tamil film industry supported these directors from the SC community.

In the petition against her, the Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front is a co-complainant.
