Rahul on YouTube: Twitter is a slanted platform that is neither neutral nor objective

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed Twitter on Friday for blocking his account and labelling it biassed.

Rahul Gandhi stated in a YouTube video statement, “They are interfering in our political process by shutting down my Twitter account. A company is working to define our politics. And as a politician, that bothers me.”

“This is an attack on our country’s democratic structure. It is not simply a matter of shutting down Rahul Gandhi. I have between 19 and 20 million followers. You deny them the right to express themselves.”

Rahul described Twitter’s action as “patently unfair,” claiming that Twitter is violating the platform’s neutrality.

Reiterating that democracy was under attack, with MPs being barred from speaking in Parliament and the media being tightly controlled, Rahul said, “I thought there was a ray of light where we could put thoughts across on Twitter.” However, this is clearly not the case. Twitter is not a neutral or objective platform; it is biassed. It pays attention to what the current government says.”

“As Indians, we must ask ourselves whether we are going to allow companies to define our politics for us simply because they are beholden to the government of India,” he said.

Twitter suspended the Wayanad MP’s account after he posted a photo of the kin of a nine-year-old Dalit girl who was raped and murdered in Delhi.

Following Rahul, the microblogging site suspended the accounts of several Congress leaders, as well as the party’s official handle, for violating privacy rules.
