India has 36,083 new COVID-19 cases, with 493 deaths

According to Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday, India saw a single-day increase of 36,083 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total to 3,21,92,576, while the death toll increased to 4,31,225, with 493 new fatalities.

The number of active cases has decreased to 3,85,336 and accounts for 1.20 percent of all infections.

The national COVID-19 recovery rate was 97.46 percent, according to data updated at 8 a.m.

It stated that in a 24-hour period, there was a reduction of 2,337 cases in active coronavirus infections.

For the past 49 days, the ministry has reported fewer than 50,000 new cases per day.

On Saturday, 19,23,863 tests were performed, bringing the total number of COVID-19 detection tests performed in the country to 49,36,24,440. The daily positivity rate was calculated to be 1.88 percent. For the last 20 days, it has been less than 3%.

According to the health ministry, the weekly positivity rate was 2 percent.

According to the data, the number of people who have recovered from the disease has risen to 3,13,76,015, with a case fatality rate of 1.34 percent.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 73,50,553 vaccine doses were administered. According to the ministry, 54.38 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered as part of the nationwide vaccination drive as of Sunday morning.

Last year, India’s COVID-19 tally reached 20 lakh on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It surpassed 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and one crore on December 19.

On May 4, the country passed the two-crore-case mark, and on June 23, it passed the three-crore-case mark.

According to the data, the 493 new fatalities include 179 from Maharashtra and 105 from Kerala.

The health ministry emphasised that co-morbidities were responsible for more than 70% of the deaths.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that the state-by-state distribution of figures is subject to additional verification and reconciliation.
