Kootu Curry is an inevitable part of onam sadya. Here we have recipe of Kerala style Kootu curry to celebrate this onam.
- 1/2 Cup Raw Banana
- 1/2 Cup Yam
- 1 Cup Black Channa
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Chilli Powder
- Salt As Required
- 1 tsp Jaggery (Optional)
- 1/4 Cup Roasted Coconut
- 3/4 Cup Coconut
- 1/2 tsp Jeera
- 1/4 tsp Pepper Corns
- 4 Flakes Garlic
- 1 Green Chilli
- 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 2 Red Chilli
- 1 Sprig Curry Leaves
Soak black chana in water overnight. Cook well. Drain the water and keep by side. Chop raw banana and yam into medium sized pieces. Also, measure and keep all the ingredients by side.
In a mixer, grind ingredients mentioned in to grind
Grind it to a smooth paste by adding very little water. In a pan, pour 2 cups of water, add a little salt and a pinch of turmeric powder.
Once the water starts to boil, add the chopped raw banana and yam. Cook till soft,
In a pan, pour 1 tbsp of oil and add 1/4 cup of grated coconut. Roast it till golden colour
In another pan, add the raw banana, yam and black chana. Then add turmeric powder, chilli powder, required salt and pour the grounded coconut paste.
Sprinkle water, mix and cook covered for 5 minutes in low flame. In a small pan, pour 2 tbsp of oil and temper with the ingredients mentioned in ‘To Temper‘.
Pour it over the curry and finally add the roasted coconut.
