Sunanda Pushkar death case: Shashi Tharoor says it’s been seven years of pure torture after a Delhi court clears him of murder charges

New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor thanked the Delhi court wholeheartedly on Wednesday for releasing him from a case involving his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death in a luxury hotel.

“Thank you very much, your honor. It’s been seven and a half years of hell. I sincerely appreciate it “Tharoor stated this in his initial reaction to the Delhi court’s decision in the matter.

The court judgment, according to the Kerala Congress MP, was a huge relief for him. Tharoor, who was cleared of all charges in the case, also posted a statement on Twitter.

“…Important ending to a protracted nightmare that had engulfed me following Sunanda’s terrible death…

Because justice has been served, all of us in the family may mourn Sunanda in peace “Shashi Tharoor stated in a statement after being released by the Delhi High Court in the death of Sunanda Pushkar.

During the case’s hearing, his lawyers told the judge that a Special Investigation Team had entirely exonerated the politician and that he should be freed because there was no evidence to support any of the charges against him.

During the arguments, while the police sought the framing of numerous offenses, including 306 (abetment of suicide), Tharoor’s lawyer, prominent advocate Vikas Pahwa, told the court that the SIT’s probe entirely exonerated the politician of all the charges leveled against him.

In a virtual hearing, Special Judge Geetanjali Goel then issued the order.

On the night of January 17, 2014, Sunanda Pushkar was discovered dead in a suite of a premium hotel in the city. The couple was staying in the hotel because Tharoor’s official residence was being refurbished at the time.

The Delhi Police accused Tharoor of violating sections 498A (husband or relative of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 306 of the Indian Penal Code, however, he was not arrested in the case.

On July 5, 2018, he was granted bail.
