COVID-19: 21,116 cases in Kerala on Thursday, TPR exceeds 16%

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 21,116 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the state’s total number of cases reported to 37,66,573.

As many as 19,296 people were cured of the infection, bringing the total number of people cured to 35,67,492.

According to a press release from Health Minister Veena George, the number of active cases has reached 1,79,303.

In the last 24 hours, 1,30,768 samples were tested, with a 16.15 percent test positivity rate. So far, 2,99,54,145 samples have been sent for testing (including the augmented sample).

With the addition of 197 deaths on Thursday, the state’s death toll now stands at 19,246.

115 of the positive cases were health workers, 102 were from outside the state, and 19,954 were infected through contact. It is unknown what caused 945 of them to become infected.

The Kerala government is prepared to vaccinate children against COVID-19 and will take action as soon as approval from the Centre is received, according to George.

Currently, more than 52% of those over the age of 18 have received the first dose of vaccine, and more than 19% have received the second dose, she said, claiming that this was higher than the national average.

A total of 4,99,903 people are being watched in various districts. 4,72,523 are in home or institutional quarantine, while 27,380 are in hospitals.

On Tuesday, 2283 people were admitted to hospitals.

In 414 wards across the state, the Weekly Infection Population Ratio is greater than eight.
