Neeraj Chopra, a gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, was brought to Panipat Hospital with a high temperature

Neeraj Chopra, a Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, was rushed to a hospital in Panipat on Tuesday after abandoning a welcome ceremony in his village midway owing to weariness and fever (August 17). According to news agency PTI, India’s best javelin thrower should be alright after a nice rest and that he left the occasion as a precautionary measure.

“A large crowd gathered, and he rode in a cavalcade to the place of the welcome celebration near his hamlet. It took some time to get to the function location,” a source told PTI.

“However, about halfway through the function, he became weary and developed a small temperature. As a result, he left the gathering and sought repose at a nearby house, according to the source.

“There have been rumors that he was brought to a hospital. That is not the case. He’s fine; it’s not a severe problem. Essentially, he is fatigued as a result of his nonstop attendance at numerous functions following his arrival from Tokyo. He is resting in a location not distant from his home.”

The 23-year-old became the first Indian track and field athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, becoming only the second Indian to do it after shooter Abhinav Bindra. However, a few days after returning home on Monday, he suffered a high fever and, on the recommendation of doctors, performed a coronavirus test.

“He did not test positive for COVID-19. But, for the time being, we have put all of his engagements on hold,” a source told PTI.
