The Taliban has pledged Hindus and Sikhs of their safety: Manjinder Singh Sirsa of the Akali Dal

New Delhi: Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa released a video clip on Twitter on Wednesday (August 18) showing Taliban members visiting Sikh community members in a gurdwara. Sirsa stated that the Taliban had guaranteed the Hindus and Sikhs who had sought refuge in the gurdwara of their safety.

“I am in daily contact with the President of the Gurdwara Committee in Kabul, S. Gurnam Singh, and the Sangat who are seeking safety at Gurdwara Karte Parwan Sahib in Kabul. Even today, Taliban representatives visited Gurdwara Sahib and met with Hindus and Sikhs, assuring them of their safety,” the SAD leader tweeted.

The leader of the Kabul gurdwara stated in the video that the Sikhs and Hindus trapped in Afghanistan have been guaranteed of their safety and are not fearful or anxious.
M Naeem, a Taliban spokesperson, tweeted the video.

The Taliban reportedly plucked the ‘Nishan Sahib’ (Sikh religious flag) from the roof of a Gurdwara in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktia region earlier this month. It was later restored, however.
The gurdwara’s caretaker, Rehman Chamkani, told Zee News that on August 6 night, a group of roughly two dozen Taliban men arrived in the area and asked him to reinstall the Nishan Sahib.
