An FIR has been filed against poet Munawwar Rana for comparing Valmiki to the Taliban

An FIR was filed against poet Munawwar Rana on Friday for allegedly inciting religious feelings by comparing Ramayana author Valmiki to Taliban, according to police.

“An FIR has been filed against Rana on the complaint of one PL Bharti, who claimed that he offended religious sentiments by comparing Valmiki to Talilban,” a senior official said here.

The FIR was filed at the Hazratganj police station under Sections 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth, and so on), 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class), 505(1)(B) (with intent to cause, or likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public), and the SC/ST atrocities prevention act.

In his complaint, Bharti claimed that Rana offended Dalits by comparing Talian to Valmiki and offended Hindus by comparing Talian to Valmiki.
Rana told a channel that Valmiki became a God after writing the Ramayana; before that, he was a dacoit. A person’s personality can change. Similarly, the Taliban are terrorists for the time being, but people and characters change.”

When discussing Valmiki, it is necessary to discuss his past. You can make anyone god in your religion. But he was a writer, and he wrote the Ramayana, but we’re not competing here, Rana explained.

In November of last year, a FIR was filed against the poet at the Hazratganj police station on similar charges for allegedly defending the killings in France over a caricature of Prophet Muhammad.
