Biryani, pulao, fried rice; Anganwadi diet menu to include more delicious, nutritious food

Malappuram: As part of a recent initiative, Anganwadi children will be provided with delicious and nutritious food. The Malappuram District ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) intends to launch a smart diet scheme to provide nutritious food.

The diet plan includes pregnant women, lactating mothers, and preschool children. The decision to change the diet menu for ICDS recipients was made at a meeting presided over by the collector.

Smart Food

The smart diet scheme proposes feeding children nutritious food in the morning, noon, and evening. Kudumbashree collects fruits, vegetables, eggs, and milk from household kitchen gardens in order to prepare the food. Every day from Monday to Saturday, different menus are prepared.

For breakfast, the menu suggests ragi (finger millet) or rice flour ada, idli, noolputtu, vegetable pulao and puttu, as well as delectable side dishes. The noon menu includes vegetable biryani, egg fried rice, sadya, and Kashmiri pulao, as well as juice. Snacks, including payasam, are planned for the evening.

Modification in February

From February 1 to March 31, the scheme will be implemented in ten anganwadis in the Malappuram municipality. A study on the nutritional level in pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children aged 3-6 years will be conducted prior to this. The modified diet will then be implemented in all anganwadis.
The grains that were distributed to reduce anaemia and malnutrition among pregnant women and lactating mothers will be replaced with a new nutrition mix. Kudumbashree will supply this in ready-to-mix powder form through anganwadis in a safe packaging.
