Yesteryear Malayalam actress Chithra dies at 56

Chithra, a Malayalam actress known for her roles in films such as Amaram, Devasuram, Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, Panjagni, Adwaitham, and Nadodi, died on Saturday at a private hospital in Chennai.

According to reports, she died at the hospital as a result of a cardiac arrest.

The actress, who has appeared in over a hundred South Indian films, was once a well-known figure in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries.
Chithra, who began her career as a child actress in Malayalam films, had her breakthrough in the 1983 film Attakalasham, co-starring Prem Nazir and Mohanlal. Her first film, however, was Rajaparvai.
Throughout her career, she has appeared in a number of films alongside the ‘Big Ms’ of Mollywood, Mohanlal and Mammootty.

The charming Chithra, who wowed in the song ‘Neelakuyile chollu, maarikiliye chollu…’ from the 1991 film Adwaitham, will be remembered by Malayalam filmgoers. Chithra, a popular Malayalam actress at the time, had vanished from the screen abruptly due to her father’s illness.

Vijayaraghavan, Chithra’s husband, is a businessman.
