Afghanistan Crisis: Taliban sends ‘hundreds of fighters’ to smash Panjshir Valley opposition bastion

Kabul: The Taliban has stated that hundreds of its fighters are in route to the Panjshir Valley, which is presently the epicenter of the Afghan resistance.
Hundreds of “mujahideen” are heading to the state of Panjshir to seize control of the province where the resistance is based, according to Sputnik, quoting a news agency.

After a months-long offensive, the Taliban stormed Kabul last week, causing the civilian government to fall.

Following the fall of the Ashraf Ghani government, Panjshir has remained the epicenter of the resistance led by Ahmad Massoud and Amrullah Saleh, Ghani’s first vice president.

According to the Russian news agency, Taliban militants are awaiting orders to invade the Taliban-held Panjshir region northeast of Kabul.

Earlier on Sunday, the Taliban offered to surrender Ahmad Massoud, the chairman of Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front.

Meanwhile, Massoud has stated that they will not surrender and that the villagers are prepared to fight.

Massoud also stated that he and his followers desired a peaceful settlement and were willing to negotiate an inclusive government with the Taliban, but the organization declined.

“If the Taliban try to grab control of Panjshir valley, resistance fighters will be ready to resist,” said Ahmad Massoud, the son of Ahmad Shah Massoud, one of the primary commanders of Afghanistan’s anti-Soviet resistance in the 1980s.

He went on to say that he wants to put an end to the strife.
