On a US evacuation flight from Kabul, an Afghan woman gives birth to a baby girl

On Saturday (August 21, 2021), an Afghan mother gave birth to a baby girl aboard a US evacuation airplane from Kabul. After arriving at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, the mother and her family were assisted by the US Air Force.

The US Air Force’s Air Mobility Command tweeted photos of medical staff assisting an Afghan mother off a US Air Force C-17 shortly after she gave birth.

“The mother went into delivery and problems developed on a flight from an Intermediate Staging Base in the Middle East. The aircraft commander chose to lower the aircraft’s height to improve air pressure, which helped stabilize the plane and preserve the mother’s life “According to a tweet from the Air Mobility Command.

“Upon landing, airmen from the 86th MDG boarded the airplane and delivered the infant in the aircraft’s cargo area. The infant girl and her mother were taken to a neighboring medical facility and are both doing well “They also added.

Earlier in the day, US Vice President Joe Biden referred to the evacuation mission in Afghanistan as one of the “biggest and most difficult” airlifts in US history.

Since the Taliban seized power in Kabul on August 15, people have been frantically trying to flee the country.
