Unvaccinated people are 29 times more likely to be hospitalised as a result of COVID-19, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

People who have not been immunized against COVID-19 are 29 times more likely to be hospitalized, according to a recent study from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
According to the latest study, the chance of infection was 4.9 times higher among persons who had not been vaccinated, while the risk of hospitalization was 29.2 times higher.

On Tuesday, the study was published in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (August 24).

“These infection and hospitalization rate statistics show that authorized vaccines were protective against SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe Covid-19 during a period when transmission of the Delta variant was increasing,” according to the study.
The study looked at 43,127 illnesses in Los Angeles County, California, between May 1 and July 25.

Hospitalization rates among unvaccinated county residents surged “exponentially” in late June, according to the government.

“Do not underestimate the potential and catastrophic repercussions of this virus,” urged CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky at a White House briefing. “Vaccines are the most powerful instrument we have to combat this pandemic,” she continued.

Until Monday, more than 20 million Americans, or 60.8 percent of the country’s population, had received at least one dose of the COVID vaccination. The government is encouraging residents to get vaccinated.
