According to Health Minister Veena George, 35% of those infected are infected at home

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Health Minister Veena George warned on Thursday against increased indoor transmission of COVID-19 at homes and urged people to strictly follow government directives to keep the disease at bay.

No one else should use the patient’s utensils or other items, the minister said, adding that everyone in the house should wash their hands with soap as a precaution.

She also issued a set of guidelines for people to follow in order to combat the disease.

According to a recent health department study, 35 percent of people in the state were found to have been infected with the disease at home.

The current situation is that when one person in the house becomes infected, the disease spreads to the rest of the family, she said in a statement.

The minister blamed the situation on violations of home quarantine directives, saying that only those with the necessary facilities at home should prefer home quarantine, while others should go to domiciliary COVID-care centres (DCCs).

To avoid the risk of indoor transmission, George advised those placed under home quarantine not to leave their rooms and asked all members of the household to wear masks.

No one else should use the patient’s utensils or other items, the minister said, adding that everyone in the house should wash their hands with soap as a precaution.

She also issued a set of guidelines for people to follow in order to combat the disease.
