Kerala accounted for 58.4 percent of Covid cases in India last week, and it is the only state with more than 1 lakh active cases: Centre

New Delhi:  According to the central government, the months of September and October will be critical in pandemic management, and festivals should be celebrated in accordance with COVID-19-appropriate behaviour.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan reiterated at a press conference that the country is still in the grip of the second wave.

According to ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava, vaccines are disease modifying rather than disease preventing, so it is critical to continue using masks even after vaccination.

According to Bhushan, “In our country, we are still in the midst of the second COVID-19 outbreak. The second surge is still ongoing. It is not over, and as a result, we must continue to take all necessary precautions, especially given our previous experience with a spike following every festival.”

“The months of September and October will be crucial for us because we will be celebrating a number of festivals. As a result, festivals must be celebrated in a Covid-appropriate manner “He continued.

According to the government, 41 districts in India have a COVID-19 weekly positivity rate of more than 10%.

Kerala accounted for 58.4 percent of all COVID-19 cases reported last week, according to the government.

“Kerala is the only state reporting over 1 lakh active COVID-19 cases, with four states reporting 10,000 to 1 lakh active cases and 31 states reporting less than 10,000 active cases,” the report said.

According to the government, over 400 evacuees have been brought back from Afghanistan so far, with some of them testing positive for COVID-19. People who have been infected have been isolated and are being treated.
