‘Taliban will be judged by their conduct, not their words,’ said a senior official

The G7 member countries have emphasized that the Taliban will be held accountable for their activities, which include protecting human rights, particularly those of women, girls, and minorities, and pursuing an inclusive political settlement in the war-torn country.

The G7 stated that it will judge the Afghan parties based on their deeds, not their words and that the legitimacy of any future government is dependent on the Taliban’s current approach to upholding its international duties.

The G7 is a group of seven member countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, and Italy, as well as the European Union.

The G7 gathered virtually this year, under the presidency of the United Kingdom, to examine the evolving security situation in Afghanistan.

Following the summit, they issued a statement stating that the grouping will collaborate with its allies and other nations to address the urgent issues confronting the war-torn country today.

The virtual meeting was also attended by the Secretaries-General of the United Nations and NATO.

The G7 members urged prudence to ensure the safety and security of vulnerable Afghan and international residents, as well as the prevention of a humanitarian crisis.

“We demand that international human rights legislation be followed, especially the rights of women, girls, and minority groups and that international humanitarian law be protected in all circumstances. Significant sacrifices have been made by the Afghan people, citizens in our own nations, and many others in pursuit of a peaceful and secure future for Afghanistan “It stated.

According to the statement, the Afghan people deserve to live in dignity, peace, and security, reflecting the last two decades of political, economic, and social achievements, particularly for women and girls.

‘Afghanistan must never again be a safe sanctuary for terrorists.’

The G7 members agreed that the country should never again be used as a safe haven for terrorists or as a source of terrorist attacks on others.

The G7 members stated that they will continue to fight terrorism in collaboration with its partners, particularly NATO allies.

According to the group, any future Afghan government must uphold the country’s international obligations and commitment to protecting citizens from terrorism, protecting human rights, particularly those of women, children, and ethnic and religious minorities, upholding the rule of law, allowing unconditional humanitarian access, and effectively combating human and drug trafficking.

The G7 members reiterated their support for the United Nations in organizing the region’s immediate international humanitarian response, including unrestricted humanitarian access in Afghanistan.

As part of a concerted long-term regional response, G7 nations will work with other countries in the region to assist Afghan refugees and host communities.

The G7 also stated that their immediate goal is to secure the safe exit of Afghans who have assisted them over the past 20 years.
