Kerala has 346 wards in 68 local bodies under triple lockdown

Thiruvananthapuram: A triple lockdown has been imposed in all wards of Kalpetta Municipality and eight panchayats across Kerala based on the COVID-19 pandemic’s Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR). In total, 346 wards in 68 local governments are now under triple lockdown, compared to 414 wards in 74 local governments last week.

Mezhuveli in Pathanamthitta district, Asamannoor, Pallarimangalam, and Vengoor in Ernakulam district, Trikkalangode in Malappuram district, and Koorachundu, Kayanna, and Koodaranji in Kozhikode district are the eight panchayats where all wards are under triple lockdown. In these areas, the IPR is greater than 8.

This week, the Ernakulam district has the most wards under triple lockdown: 104. It is followed by the Kozhikode district, which has 77 wards. There are no wards in the Kasaragod district that are under triple lockdown. Strict curbs have been imposed in four Kottayam wards.
Micro-containment zones will be increased by 50% in districts with an IPR of 14 or higher. Next Wednesday, the district administration will publish the list in accordance with the IPR on the Covid Jagratha portal.

According to the Central Government, Kerala is the only state in the country with more than 1 lakh Covid patients. In Kerala, as many as 1,81,209 people are currently receiving treatment for Covid. The country’s total patient population is 3.39 lakh.
According to Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, Kerala accounted for 58.4 percent of all Covid cases reported in the country last week. He also stated that the state government has been informed of the changes that Kerala needs to make in Covid testing, primary contact identification, and home quarantine.

Meanwhile, the state’s Covid death toll has surpassed 20,000. Following the report of 162 deaths on Thursday, the total death toll has risen to 20,134. On Thursday, 30,077 Covid cases were reported in the state, with 1,66,397 samples tested. The TPR (Test Positivity Rate) is 18.03 percent.

No ICU or ventilator crisis: Kerala Health Minister Veena George has stated that there is no ICU or ventilator crisis in the state’s hospitals.
“There are no shortages of intensive care facilities in any district. Aside from government hospitals, the 281 accredited private hospitals provide free Covid treatment to all patients, regardless of their financial status (as indicated by the APL/BPL classification). If ICU and ventilator facilities are not available at government hospitals, arrangements for treatment can be made at these facilities,” the Minister explained.
