Terrorist attack on Afghans waiting at Kabul airport, followed by another at a nearby hotel; more casualties are expected

Multiple explosions at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport’s Abbey Gate have resulted in an undetermined number of injuries.

The number of casualties varies and so remains unconfirmed. While the Taliban claimed at least 13 people were killed in the Kabul explosion, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that at least two people were killed and 15 were injured.

The explosion at the Abbey Gate, according to US authorities, was the result of a complicated attack that resulted in a number of American and civilian casualties.

The Americans also confirmed a second explosion near the Baron Hotel, which is close to the Abbey Gate.

According to media sources, approximately 60 injured people were sent to Kabul’s emergency hospital.

The blasts have exacerbated the already unstable situation in Afghanistan’s capital since the Taliban’s takeover on August 15.

Thousands of people have attempted to exit the nation since the Taliban arrived at the capital’s gates. The Afghans have been forced to fend for themselves outside the airport perimeter because the evacuation process has been excruciatingly sluggish.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred inside the crowd outside the airport, according to Afghan media site Tolo News.

Since last week, the US embassy in Kabul has been warning American citizens to avoid the airport due to a potential terror threat.

The Baron Hotel, the second location where an explosion occurred, was favored by westerners.

According to media reports, countries such as Poland, Belgium, and Denmark were halting evacuations from Kabul.

The US Embassy in Kabul has now warned nationals not to travel to the airport and to avoid airport gates at this time.

The US embassy encouraged its citizens at the North Gate, Abbey Gate, and East Gate to leave immediately in their request.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, or Taliban for short, issued a statement condemning the attacks.

According to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, the bombing of civilians at Kabul airport occurred in the zone, which was secured by US forces.

He went on to say that the Islamic Emirate was concerned about the Afghan people’s security and protection.
