The first Covid-19 vaccination dosage has been administered to 50% of India’s adult population

The Narendra Modi government announced on Thursday that the country had vaccinated 50% of its eligible population with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed the development on Twitter, stating that 50% of the eligible population had received the first dosage of the Covid-19 vaccine.

According to data released by the health ministry, the country’s immunization coverage has surpassed 61 crores (61,10,43,573). On Thursday alone, about 68 lakh vaccination doses were administered.

The Modi government has been pressuring governments to speed up Covid-19 vaccination across the country.

The vaccination campaign has been stepped up, according to the Union Health Ministry, due to the availability of more vaccinations, precise forecasts of vaccine requirements for states and Union territories, and the simplification of the supply chain.

The Centre has been distributing immunizations to states and union territories at no cost. The federal government has procured and supplied free of charge 75 percent of the vaccinations manufactured by the country’s producers.
